Interviewing Attire
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. It’s an old saying, but it’s still true. You probably spent hours working on your resume and cover letter, why chance blowing the interview by wearing the wrong thing. Take the time to look your best.
What to Wear
Men: Suit, slacks, dress shirt, tie, and polished shoes.
Women: Suit, slacks and a blouse, skirt (to the knee) and a blouse, dress, and polished shoes.
What NOT to Wear
• Jeans
• Tight clothing
• Sweatsuits
• Baseball caps
• T-shirts
• Tank tops
• Shorts
• Flip-flops or beach shoes
• Sandals
• Tennis shoes
• Party clothes
You should always dress in business attire. Casual wear is not appropriate for an interview. The potential employer may have “casual Fridays,” but this does not apply to an interview situation. Clothes that are too dressy should not be worn either. Your attire should be conservative and fit properly. Your clothing should also be neat, clean, and pressed.
You want the interviewer to focus on you. Perfumes and aftershave/colognes should also be avoided. Makeup and jewelry should be kept to a minimum. Absolutely NO gum or tobacco chewing. These items can be distracting.
